  FCEM World President reinforcing and consolidating the gains and visibility of women entrepreneurs in the North Africa region, participated as keynote speaker at the North Africa Investment Forum organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Sub-Regional Development Center, February 7 to 8, 2002 in Casablanca, Morocco.
  

  For the first time, FCEM awarded the bi-annual “Yvonne Edmond Foinant” Prize in homage of the President - founder of FCEM, which gives the highest recognition to an FCEM National Association for its activities and actions in promoting women entrepreneurs. The national association AIDDA of Italy, which among its myriad of activities, helped to organize the women entrepreneurs of Bosnia Herzegovina, was awarded the prize this year.
  

  Ketty Tzitzikosta and the members of AGWE, working within a tight deadline, organized with distinction the FCEM Steering Committee, November 25 to 28 at the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Athens. AGWE organized numerous official reunions and rendezvous to promote FCEM. A press conference was held at the closure of the visit which provided comprehensive national print and television coverage of the event.
   

  
  Trieste, Italy, November 21 to 24, 2001. Leyla Khaiat participated as keynote speaker at the Round Table on Women Entrepreneurs, Building Networks, organized by the Central European Initiative under the presidency of Italy. In her presentation, Leyla Khaiat provided an overview of the distinct roles of associations of women entrepreneurs, and government and international institutions in the establishing and operations of networks of women business owners. Among other FCEM members participating as a speakers were Ludmila Tchoubatuk, President AWBR, Russia, Etta Carignani, FCEM Secretary General and President of AIDDA, Italy and Marta Turk, FCEM Vice-President and President ASE. A resume and the conclusions of the conference have been published and are available from UNECE.
  

  Leyla Khaiat FCEM World President participated as a keynote speaker at the November 15, 2001 conference organized by UNCTAD in Geneva, Switzerland. The FCEM recommendations to the conference on Women Entrepreneurs and enterprise development outlined the roles and the actions of governments, international institutions and non-profit women business owners associations required to reinforce the development of women-owned enterprises. Underlined was the need for consolidation within the United Nations organization of efforts aimed to promote women¹s entrepreneurial initiative, with the recommendation that a distinct structure be created specific to women entrepreneurs and economic and social development.

     
  Increased numbers of national associations of women entrepreneurs are becoming interested in joining FCEM. 

  The Association VCHU from Switzerland has forwarded their formal request for membership in FCEM, as has the Slovakian association of women entrepreneurs.

  Ginger Eisen, President of honor of WEC Canada organized with great success, distinction and warmth the visit of FCEM World President, Leyla Khaiat, who was accompanied by Etta Carignani, FCEM Secretary General, and members of the FCEM Steering Committee with the members of WEC aimed at gaining insight into the work of the Canadian association and to encourage their activity in FCEM.

  Invited by the national association of Algerian women business owners SEVE for a three-day official visit in Algeria, FCEM World President Leyla Khaiat was very impressed by the vitality and strength of the organization. The World President’s itinerary while in Algeria included visits to women owned enterprises and audiences with government representatives, in addition to press conferences and interviews with local national print, television and radio media.
